Etos is the only living god (Mother Nature was the other) that is known to not have parents. He seems to have always existed. This would normally mean that he should be the leader of all the gods, but this is not the case. This god seems to be antisocial when it comes to the other gods, preferring the company of his followers to that of the other gods. That is not to say that all his followers are equal in his eyes. He shows obvious favor to some of his followers, just so long as they have been weighed by his scales. His scales do not measure "right" and "wrong" or "good" and "bad" actions. In fact, no one knows exactly what it is that fuels the scales which he measures the actions by. His scales have even left Ocenyia confused when trying to figure them out.

In a nameless scroll, written by an unknown author, which talks about various religious figures, best describes this strange god.

...and who can forget, the great god Etos. He grants his blessing to anyone who wants to learn the art, as long as they have the most basic knowledge of how to summon. His favor, however, is granted based on something strange that I have not been able to figure out. Even some of his most powerful followers do not bask in the glory of his full favor. That is not saying that those that do have his full favor are granted special privileges, either. His decisions do not have to make sense to anyone else, but I do know this: His followers say that they wouldn't change him for anything, because though his system of judgment does not make sense to anyone, he is a fair and just God.

But alas, I have strayed off topic. Etos has a significant roll with the well being of the beasts of the land, certain to make sure that no one tips the balance in the wilderness too much. He does this by constantly summoning an additional creature when one is killed. This in and of itself means that he directly has a hand in the followers of Zain, Hyriss, and Ocenyia being sure that they can always find the experience necessary to better themselves. It also helps the followers of Kovera, because they will always have people to sell their items to, and that in turn helps the followers of Amtus. This is probably a big reason that no one minds his strange way of weighing the deeds of his followers...
